Michael Benham scored his second pole position of the 2018 Michelin Le Mans Cup season when he set a 2m17.217 lap in the no25 Lanan Racing Norma, 0.5 seconds ahead of the no2 Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Ligier of Tony Wells.
The session was declared wet but the track was dry in most parts. As the 15 minute session progressed the times started to tumble with all the fast laps being set on the final few laps just before the chequered flag.
Championship leader Jens Peterson could only manage to set the 8th fastest time of the session in the no3 DKR Engineering Norma while his championship rival Alasdair McCaig will start this afternoons race on the second row.
One Step Closer to GT3 Title

Sergio Pianezzola moved one point closer to GT3 title when he took his third pole position of the season in the no8 Kessel Racing Ferrari. The current championship leader posted a 2m30.146 lap, 2.1 seconds ahead of the no88 Ebimotors Porsche of Alessandro Baccani.
The qualifying session was interrupted by a red flag after seven minutes into the fifteen minute session when the no71 AF Corse Ferrari of Pierguiseppe Pereazzini speared left on the Kemmel Straight into the barriers. The Italian drove the badly damaged car to a safe position and climbed out for it to be recovered by the marshals.
The Armco barriers had to be repaired which took over 30 minutes to complete. The session was resumed after the barriers were deemed to be safe and Pianezzola duly posted the best time of the session to take pole position.
The no8 Kessel Racing Ferrari of Giacomo Piccini and Sergio Pianezzola now holds a 22 point lead over the no51 Spirit of Race Ferrari, which qualified in fourth place for this afternoon’s race.
The sixth race of the 2018 Michelin Le Mans Cup at Spa-Francorchamps will take place at 15h50 CET this afternoon.
