British team FF Corse competed in the first ever season of the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup. At the wheel of the n°25 F488 Ivor Dunbar and Johnny Mowlem ended the season at the 12th position with 17 points. The best result for the team this season was a 6th position at the Red Bull Ring in Austria last July. We have met with Danny King (Team Manager) for the review of the team’s 2016 season.
2016 season review: “We learnt a lot this year. The team had a lot to learn in term of regulations, performance… It was important for us to be part of this championship and to represent our client. We are happy with the pace of the car on all the tracks. We were lucky to have Johnny Mowlem in the team as he is a really quick and experienced driver. He is passionate about motorsport and also about Ferrari. We have improved the performance of the car all year long and we have posted good results. We fight at the front but unfortunately we had a lack of luck in France where we had a puncture and in Spa where we made a mistake and had a penalty following a pitstop. We’ve learnt from our mistakes and we have improved. We enjoyed 2016 and we are looking forward to the next season. “
2016 Road To Le Mans (GT3 14th): “Our goal was to do that round and to race in Le Mans. It was a great opportunity and I was amazed by this fantastic event. In term of results and pace it was hard but really magical to race on this mythical track. It also allows Ivor to get to know the track as his ambition is to do the 24 Hours of Le Mans.”
2017: “We really appreciated the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup, and this championship will be our priority next season. Before, we have to know the goals and ambitions of our clients for 2017. We will be really happy to race again in this championship and we have a lot to offer to our clients.”
What about the car(s)? “We are open to every opportunity concerning the cars. We are able to enter two cars. With three it will start to be complicated but we have the assets to do it. My role as a team manager will be much more complicated but why not! It will be great to have client that want to race Ferrari at that level.”
What do you think of this new championship? “I think that the most important things are how the championship goes upward and how the organisers talk with the competitors. I have to say that concerning those two criteria everything went well either with the race direction, the scrutineering or the marshals that were very helpful and understanding. Everybody was great and we are looking forward to the next season.”
Le Mans, the next goal? “Everybody wants to do the 24 Hours of Le Mans either in LMP or LMGTE. I think that the only way to achieve this is to do the Michelin Le Mans Cup in the GT3 class. Our customers want to do Le Mans and we can help them to achieve their ambitions.”
