Here are some facts and figures about the Red Bull Ring.
- The first European Le Mans Series race at the Red Bull Ring took place on the 20 July 2013 and lasted 3-hours. The race was won by the no1 Thiriet by TDS Racing Oreca-Nissan of Pierre Thiriet and Mathias Beche.
- In 2013, 2014 and 2015 Ferrari took all three podium places in the LMGTE class.
- Current ELMS lap record is held by reigning FIA World Endurance Driver’s Champion Brendon Hartley who lapped the circuit in a Murphy Prototypes Oreca Nissan in 1m24.337
- The fastest ELMS lap recorded on the Red Bull Ring was a 1m22.983 set by Harry Tincknell in 2015 in the JOTA Sport Zytek-Nissan during qualifying. Because it wasn’t set during the race, it doesn’t count as an official lap record.
- Harry Tincknell and Simon Dolan have enjoyed success at the Red Bull Ring with victory in 2015 and second in 2014 with Filipe Albuquerque.
- The no38 JOTA Sport Zytek / Gibson (which is now the no38 G-Drive Racing Gibson-Nissan) has been on pole position at every race at the Red Bull Ring since 2013.
- The fastest LMP3 lap in 2015 was set by Charlie Robertson in the no3 Team LNT Ginetta during qualifying – a 1m29.851. The LMP3 lap record is 1m31.756 set by Gaetan Paletou in the no2 Team LNT Ginetta, the Frenchman setting his lap time during the 2015 race.
- 26 ELMS cars were on the starting grid in 2013, 33 in 2014 and 29 in 2015. 38 are due to compete in 2016.
- The Red Bull Ring will host the third round of the new for 2016 Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup.
- There are four previous winners of the ELMS GTC class at the Red Bull Ring on the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup grid – Francesco Castellacci and Thomas Flohr (2015), Aleksey Basov (2014), Victor Shaitar (2013).
- Built in 1969 and originally called the Österreichring. The circuit hosted the Formula One Austrian Grand Prix between 1970 and 1987.
- The circuit length of the original Österreichring was 5.911 km (3.673 mi), with 16 turns between 1969 and 1976
- The circuit was changed in 1977 to include a chicane, which increased the circuit length to 5.941 km (3.692 mi) with 18 turns
- The track was shortened, rebuilt and renamed the A1-Ring and it hosted the Austrian Grand Prix again from 1997 to 2003. In 2011 the circuit was renamed the Red Bull Ring and Formula One returned in 2014.
- The current circuit layout is 9 turns on the 4.326 km (2.688 mi) track.
- American film director and producer Steven Spielberg gets his last name from his descent from Hungarian Jews living in 17th-century Spielberg.
