Belgium’s Jean Glorieux, along with Spanish teammate Alex Toril and DKR Engineering, has taken the 2017 Michelin Le Mans Cup by storm. The 32-year-old from Kortrijk has scored four podiums, including three wins and three pole positions from the five races held so far this season.
The former Porsche Supercup driver now has the opportunity to race for the 2017 title in front of his family, friends and sponsors as the 2017 Michelin Le Mans Cup heads to Spa-Francorchamps for the penultimate race of the season.
We caught up with Jean ahead of the Spa weekend to talk about his season so far and what is he looking forward to the most about racing at home.
Q: What does racing at Spa-Francorchamps mean to you as a Belgian driver?
“Obviously it is very nice for me. It is, of course, a very famous race track, a high speed track and I love high speed tracks! So I am really looking forward to it.”
Q: What parts of Spa-Francorchamps are your favourite?
“Of course Raidillon, who doesn’t like that corner? And I like Blanchimont very much.”
Q: Out of all the tracks in the world how high would Spa-Francorchamps appear on your list of favourites?
“Absolutely the favourite, no doubt about it. Of course you might think I would say that because it is my home circuit, but I love high speed tracks. Spa has such legendary corners and the legend around the circuit is enormous. If you ask most of the racing drivers around the world who have driven at Spa, they would put this track as their number one or at least in the top three.”
“This track is very good for the region and we are very happy to still host the Belgian Grand Prix and, of course, the WEC in May and the ELMS in September.”
Q: So how many people have you got coming for the weekend to support you?
“I don’t know to be honest; I haven’t counted them but a few dozen I would say including some important people from my main sponsor Skylux. I hope we will have something to celebrate after the race on Saturday.”
