The 2021 Michelin Le Mans Cup calendar has been unveiled with six events on Europe’s top circuits. Five of the events will be run on the same weekend as the European Le Mans Series and Ligier European Series, with the Road to Le Mans supporting the 89th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June.
The season will start with the pre-season test at Barcelona, just ahead of the first two-hour race at the same venue.
Round 2 will be the Jewel in the Crown event, the Road to Le Mans, with one 55-minute race on the 10th June, followed by the second race on Saturday morning just before the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Round 3 will be held at Monza in July and Le Castellet in August. The annual trip to Belgium will follow in September with the 2-hour race at Spa Francorchamps and the series will conclude in Portugal at Portimão in October.
It should be understood that this calendar is subject to further change according to the evolution of the current health crisis.
Pierre Fillon, President of the ACO, said: “Since 2016 the Michelin Le Mans Cup has provided the perfect first step for drivers and teams looking to progress in endurance, with the emphasis of providing bronze drivers with the maximum amount of track time to gain experience. The calendar provides a perfect combination of challenging and technical circuits, with the opportunity to race on the full circuit at Le Mans.I look forward to watching the next group of future stars of endurance in 2021.”
Gérard Neveu, Michelin Le Mans Cup CEO, said: “After the disruption caused to the 2020 season by the Covid-19 pandemic the 2021 Michelin Le Mans Cup calendar offers the teams and drivers stability as all of the six high profile venues are unchanged from previous seasons.
“The Road to Le Mans remains the key event on the calendar, offering competitors the opportunity to race on the full La Sarthe circuit ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. To see the 2016 Michelin Le Mans Cup team champions TF Sport win the LMGTE AM class and become 24 Hours of Le Mans Champions this year demonstrates the importance of the Michelin Le Mans Cup on the endurance racing ladder.”
