34 entries, 68 drivers and 22 teams representing 21 different nations for Road To Le Mans 2020.
The grid for round 4 of the 2020 Michelin Le Mans Cup will include the current championship leaders, race winners from the three rounds held so far this season with some teams making a welcome return to the Series.
GT3: Bumper Grid for Le Mans Showdown
Eleven cars will form the GT3 part of the grid with championship leader Rino Mastronardi being rejoined in the no8 Iron Lynx Ferrari by reigning champion Giacomo Piccini.Piccini was not able to take part in the Le Castellet 120 last month and is currently second in the drivers’ championship, 15 points behind Mastronardi.
Russia’s Murod Sultanov is in third place just seven points behind Piccini and eight points ahead of Michael Broniszewski and David Perel. Round 3 winners Julien Andlauer and Nicolas Leutwiler will take part in the no2 Pzoberer Zurichsee by TFT Porsche 911 GT3 R.
The GT3 field sees the welcome return of Chinese team FFF Racing Team by ACM with Japan’s Hiroshi Hamaguchi. Hamaguchi finished second in the 2016 RTLM in the team’s McLaren 650S and in 2020 he will be racing a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 with Italian Andrea Calderelli.
Belgian team Delahaye Racing will enter a Porsche 911 GT3 R for French duo Pierre-Etienne Bordet and Alexandre Viron, while Sky Tempesta Racing will enter a Ferrari 488 GT3 for Britain’s Christopher Froggatt and Jonathan Hui from Hong Kong.
LMP3: Ligier v Duqueine Go Head to Head on Home Turf
The LMP3 grid will feature 23 cars with 15 Ligier JS P320 and 8 Duqueine M30-D08s. Current championship leaders Jean Glorieux and Laurents Hörr are looking to extend their points lead in the no3 DKR Engineering Duqueine, which currently stands at 12 points ahead of the no26 Graff Ligier of Matthias Kaiser and Rory Penttinen.
Glorieux is already a past Road to Le Mans winner, standing on the top step with Alex Toril in 2017, the year they went on to win the title.
Round 3 winner Maurice Smith is currently 3rd in the points standings just 15 points behind the championship leaders. Smith will line up with Matt Bell once again in the no69 Cool Racing Ligier.Round 2 winners Nicolas Maulini and Edouard Cauhaupe are 4th on 36 points, 5 points ahead of Bell, in the no37 Cool Racing Ligier.
ELMS winning teams Realteam Racing, United Autosports and current LMP3 champions Eurointernational are all entering cars for the Road to Le Mans, with DKR Engineering also entering a second car.
The Road to Le Mans will get underway on Thursday 17 September with two Free Practice sessions. Qualifying and the first 55-minute race will take place on Friday 18th, with race two on Saturday 19 September at 11h15, just over three hours before the 88th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is due to start.
