Reigning LMP3 Champions R-ace GP have thrown down the gauntlet to the rest of the LMP3 by posting the two fastest laps in qualifying for the opening race of the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup in Barcelona later today.
Several cars made early bids for the top spot on the grid, with the no12 Brutal Fish by Campos driven by Arthur Rogeon posted a 1m37.518 before being pushed off the top spot by his teammate Matus Ryba in the no19 Ligier. Rogeon improved to 1m36.918 to retake the provisional pole position but was then pushed back to second by Zack Scoular in the no86 R-ace GP Duqueine-Toyota with the Kiwi posting a 1m36.771.
Scoular was then pushed back a place when his teammate Enzo Peugeot lapped in 1m36.357 to secure the pole for the opening race of the season. The two Brutal Fish by Campos Ligiers line up on row 2 with Matus Ryba finishing ahead of Rogeon at the chequered flag by 0.137s.
Row 3 will see the no8 BWT Muecke Motorsport Ligier start in 5th alongside the no29 Forestier Racing by VPS.
The no34 Inter Europol Competition Ligier took the first-class pole of 2026, with Alexander Bukhantsov lapping in 1m39.209, 0.285 ahead of the no71 Rinaldi Racing Ligier-Toyota of Stefan Aust.
The session was briefly red flagged when the no58 GG Classics went off track before any lap times were recorded, with George Nakas recovering the car so that the session could resume.
The no62 Bretton Racing Ligier of Jacek Zielonka finished third, just 0.3 seconds behind Bukhantsov and well ahead of the no24 Racing Spirit of Leman Ligier of Christian Gisy in 4th.
The no11 Code Racing Development Aston Martin Vantage will start on pole position after Sebastian Moreno finished at the top of the timing screens at the end of the 15-minute session. Moreno posted a 1m42.339 lap, a massive 1.314s ahead of the rest of the field led by the no88 AF Corse Ferrari of Rey Acosta III, the American finishing the session on 1m43.653, 0.046s ahead of his AF Corse teammate and reigning champion Alessandro Cozzi in the no51 Ferrari.
The 2-hour race in Barcelona is due to get underway at 18h20 this afternoon.
