Egidio Perfetti – Michelin Le Mans Cup to World and 24 Hours of Le Mans Champion

The Michelin Le Mans Cup was established in 2016 as a series to give bronze drivers priority and to maximise their track time at each and every event. Being paired with a silver or gold rated driver also enable the gentlemen drivers the maximum opportunity to learn and improve.

In 2016 Norway’s Egidio Perfetti was one of the first drivers to sign up for the inaugural season of the then Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup and became one of the front runners, scoring five podium finishes and securing two pole positions in the six races held that year. Perfetti finished third overall in the no86 Mentos Racing Porsche.

In 2018 Perfetti switched to the FIA World Endurance Championship for the ‘Super Season’ and along with Jorg Bergmeister and Patrick Lindsay secured the FIA GTE AM FIA Endurance Trophy in the no56 Team Project 1 Porsche. The trio also finished second in the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans behind the no85 Keating Motorsport Ford GT, only for the Ford to be excluded from the results following post-race scrutineering, promoting the no56 Porsche to the top step of the podium.

Egidio Perfetti is the perfect example of what the Michelin Le Mans Cup was set up for, to enable gentlemen drivers to compete and win at the highest level.

In the post race press conference at Le Mans Egidio Perfetti said, “It is just extraordinary, it has been quite a ride. It wasn’t easy, we had some issues at the beginning, it was our first season in the WEC, but we are extremely proud of the team, how they succeeded. The drivers did a great job and we had some strong support from Porsche as well. This is a special occasion, the opportunity to do two 24 Hours of Le Mans in the same season was incredible and a difficult temptation to miss. We are looking forward to be back next season with two cars.”

The next outing for Team Project 1, Egidio Perfetti and Jorg Bergmeister will be in the European Le Mans Series in the 4 Hours of Barcelona on Saturday 20 July.
