The LMP3 category has been part of the Michelin Le Mans Cup since 2017. LMP3 competitors being able to compete in the Road To Le Mans race in 2016.
There have been 50 races held since that first race in 2016, with all of the four eligible chassis’ manufacturers being represented on the MLMC grid over the years. Ligier, and Norma/ Duqueine have been the main stays of the series, with teams running the Ginetta and Adess chassis joining for the Road to Le Mans in 2016-18.
In 2017 TKS ran a single car for Japanese duo Shinyo Sano and Takuya Shirasaka, who finished 21st in race 1 and 10th in race 2. The team returned in 2018 for another two races at Le Mans, with Sano and Shirasaka finishing 22nd in race 1 and posting a DNF in race 2.
The Adess chassis has made three appearances, all at Le Mans. In 2016 PS Racing race a single car which was unclassified at the end of the race.
In 2017 four-time MLMC LMP3 champions DKR Engineering race a single Adess-Nissan alongside their two Norma M30s at Le Mans for Japan’s Yojiro Terada and French driver Sylvain Boulay. The team recorded a DNF in race 1 and 24th in race 2.
In 2021 Australian team Revere Lifestyle entered an Adess-03 EVO driven by ELMS LMP3 Champion John Falb and French driver Simon Escallier but the car failed to finish in either race.
For the 2024 Michelin Le Mans Cup there are 29 LMP3 contenders, with 25 Ligier JS P320-Nissans competing against 4 Duqueine M30-DO08s.
