Tim Verbergt will make his debut in the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup this weekend at home at Spa-Francorchamps. Driving the n°90 Aston Martin Vantage run by Autoclub Excelsior, he will be one of the four Belgian drivers taking part in this round and competing at home might be an advantage. However the Spa-Francorchamps round is likely to be the toughest of the season so far as the finishing line in the race for the inaugural GT3 Le Mans Cup title is getting nearer.
Could you tell us a bit more about your racing career?
I started my racing career at the age of 15, with go karting, after winning the Belgian championship. We then went to Formula Ford and became Benelux champion and front runner at the festival.
In 1997 and 1998 I drove in F3 in Germany, after this I was an Audi driver in Belgium for 11 seasons.
Today I drive with Autoclub Excelsior (Aston Martin Brussels) for five seasons and we became Belgian champions in 2014.
It will be your first race in the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup, what are your expectations?
It will be my first race in the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup. I expect that it will be a difficult weekend as we have not competed in any races this year so far.
What convinced you to drive in the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup?
It was an idea from Autoclub Excelsior (Aston Martin Brussels) to take part at Spa and I am happy to be part of it.
What are your favourite parts of the Spa track?
At Spa there is no part which I don’t like, it is a special track with a big history!
