Louis Iglesias took pole position on the very last lap of the 15-minte session in Portimao, the French driver posting a 1m38.916 in the no9 ANS Motorsport Liger-Toyota to claim the single championship point by 0.105s. Jules Caranta had looked to be on course to secure the pole in the no4 Nielsen Racing Duqueine with a 1m39.021 lap, but had to settle for a front row start position for tomorrow’s final 120-minute race of the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup.
Colin Queen was third fastest in the no50 23Events Racing Ligier, finishing the session 0.542s behind the pole sitter and 0.263s ahead of the newly crowned champion Enzo Peugeot in the no85 R-ace GP Duqueine. The no99 More Motorsport and the no19 Brutal Fish by Campos Ligiers finished 5th and 6th fastest respectively.
Alex Bukhantsov claimed his 5th pole position of the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup in the no34 Inter Europol Competition Ligier, with a good battle for the top spot with Emil Hellberg in the no48 Allay Racing Ligier.
Bukhantsov set the early pace but then Hellberg took the top spot with a 1m41.238. Both drivers improved and it was Bukhantsov who set the pole time with 4-minutes left on the clock.
Jacek Zielonka posted his best lap at the chequered flag and will start the race in Portimao at the head of row 2 in the no62 Bretton Racing Ligier ahead of Stefan Aust in the no71 Rinaldi Racing. Championship leader Eric De Doncker will start from sixth in the no98 Motorsport98 Ligier, two places ahead of championship rival Steve Parrow in the no66 Rinaldi Racing Ligier.
The no77 SMC Motorsport McLaren will start from the front of the GT3 grid for the second time in 2026, with Gonzalo De Andres Martin claiming the top spot in a red flag interrupted session.
The no91 Ecurie Ecosse Blackthorn Aston Martin Vantage of Claude Bovet stopped on track in a dangerous position with just over 5 minutes left on the clock. De Andres Martin already held the provisional pole but improved his time to 1m44.154 at the chequered flag, nearly a second ahead of the rest of the field.
The championship leading no10 Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin of Philipp Sager will join the McLaren on the front row, with the Austrian posting a lap of 1m45.131. Row two will see the no11 Code Racing Development and the no17 Kessel Racing Ferrari, with the two AF Corse Ferrari 296s on row 3.
The sixth and final race of the 2026 Michelin Le Mans Cup will take place on Saturday 10 October at 09h30.
