Comparing the Norma M30 and the Ligier JS P3

LMC - 04/12/2017 - Jeff CARTER

The LMP3 category in the Michelin Le Mans Cup and European Le Mans Series has been one of the success stories in modern endurance racing. Introduced by the ACO in 2014 and first seen in the 2015 European Le Mans Series, the LMP3 category has grown at a phenomenal rate.

The Ligier JS P3 chassis made its race debut at the end of the 2015 season, winning the ELMS title with United Autosports the following season. The Ligier JS P3 has been the ‘go to’ chassis for most of the teams competing in both the Michelin Le Mans Cup and ELMS. In 2016 the Norma M30 chassis appeared and the French manufacturer went head to head with Ligier in both the MLMC and ELMS.

While Ligier retained the LMP3 title in the ELMS, once again with United Autosports, Norma met with more success in the Michelin Le Mans Cup, taking six pole position and four wins in the seven races held in 2017.  Also the Norma M30 was faster through the speed traps at each of the six circuits visited during the 2017 season.

At the end of the year the DKR Engineering run Norma M30-Nissan won the 2017 Michelin Le Mans Cup team title, while Jean Glorieux and Alex Toril became the 2017 driver champions.
