The Road to Le Mans was first run in 2016 with a combined grid of LMP3 and GT3 in one 55-minute race. In 2017 the schedule has been expanded to two 55-minute races, one on Thursday and one on Saturday morning just before the start of the 2017 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Racing on the full 13.6 km circuit is a rare privilege and the Road to Le Mans gives teams and drivers whose ambition is to compete in the world’s greatest race, the 24 Heures du Mans, the opportunity to gather some experience of this unique and intimidating circuit.
The grid for the Road to Le Mans is limited to 46 cars and, while race by race entries will be allowed, priority will be given to teams entered for the full season in the 2017 Le Mans Cup.
The 2017 Michelin Le Mans Cup will take place over six events, starting at Monza on Saturday 13 May. Round 2 will be the Road to Le Mans event on June 15/17 followed by Red Bull Ring (22 July), Le Castellet (26 August), Spa-Francorchamps (23 September) and concludes at Portimão in Portugal (22 October). Full season entries are also eligible to share in the substantial prize fund and to receive the automatic invitation to the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans.
All of the races, with the exception of the Road to Le Mans, support the 2017 European Le Mans Series, guaranteeing an action packed weekend of racing for competitors and fans alike. The season begins with the Collective Test Session at Portimão on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 April.
Any teams wishing to enter the 2017 Michelin Le Mans Cup, and be eligible for the 2017 Road to Le Mans and the prize fund, can still do so before the start of the season.
