After a storm moved through the Styrian Alps overnight the Michelin Le Mans Cup competitors took to the track under sunny skies for the first 60-minute Free Practice session of the weekend at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
The 21 strong grid was headed by Monza race winners Tony Wells and Colin Noble in the no79 Nielsen Racing Ligier. Noble set the fastest time of 1m26.999, 0.780s ahead of the no14 RLR M Sport Ligier of Alex Kapadia and 0.872 ahead of the no4 Cool Racing by GPC Ligier of Iradj Alexander.
The GT3 class was headed by the no95 Spirit of Race Ferrari of Christoph Ulrich and Maurizio Mediani, with Mediani posting a 1m30.200 around the 4.3km Red Bull Ring track. Second quickest was the no46 Ebimotors Lamborghini with Fabio Babini setting a lap of 1m3.419 with the no75 Optimum Racing Audi R8 of Joe Osborne and Flick Haigh in third with a 1m30.506 lap.
