Monza Debut for New Look Michelin Le Mans Cup

Monza will mark the debut of the new look Michelin Le Mans Cup where LMP3 and GT3s race together at six different venues during 2017. The two categories raced together at the Road to Le Mans last season but LMP3s were not eligible for the 2016 Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup. However with the success of the Road to Le Mans last, the series has been expanded to include the entry level prototypes.

The race at Monza will last 2 hours and among the 20 season entries 19 will be at the start of the Italian race – 14 LMP3 and 5 GT3.  The teams and drivers represent eleven different nations from across Europe and North America.

The highly competitive GT3 grid features the imposing Mercedes AMG GT3, the impressive Audi R8 LMS and the beautiful Lamborghini Huracan GT3.  All of the cars on the LMP3 grid are powered by the same Nissan engine, with the Ligier JS P3 being joined by a single Norma M 30 run by DKR Engineering.

In GT3 all the local support will be for the no46 Ebimotors Lamborghini Huracan GT3, which will feature an all Italian line up with Emanuele Busnelli and former 24 Hours of Le Mans GT Champion Fabio Babini sharing the driving in the 2-hour race.  They will face stiff competition by the two Mercedes AMG GT3 run by British teams RAM Racing and Lee Mowle, with another British team, Optimum Racing, racing an Audi R8 LMS.  Austrian outfit, SVC Sport Management with complete the grid with the second Lamborghini Huracan GT3.

In LMP3 the fourteen car grid will feature a wealth of talent including a two car entry by reigning ELMS LMP3 Champions United Autosports with other current ELMS teams Graff, Duqueine Engineering, M.Racing-YMR, RLR M Sport and Spirit of Race taking the opportunity to race in the Michelin Le Mans Cup.  They will be joined by Dutch team Kox Racing, Spanish teams SPV MotorSport and Ibran Pardo Javier, Motorsport98 from Belgium, N’Race from France, British team Nielsen Racing and DKR Engineering from Luxembourg.

With a large prize fund and a place on the grid at the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans at stake, expect there to be high drama at Monza for the opening round of the 2017 Michelin Le Mans Cup.
