MLMC Attracts 31 Cars for Opening Race of 2021 Season in Spain

The 2021 Michelin Le Mans Cup will get underway at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with the first 2-hour race of the season on Saturday 17 April.

The grid will feature 26 LMP3 and 5 GT3 entries, with 23 teams and 58 drivers representing 20 different nations from all corners of the world.

GT3

  1. The GT3 grid will feature five cars run by four teams – Ferrari 488 GT3, Porsche 911 GT3R, Mercedes AMG GT3.
  2. Reigning Champion Rino Mastronardi gets a new co-driver for the 2021 season with the highly experienced Paolo Ruberti joining him in the no8 Iron Lynx Ferrari.
  3. The no9 Iron Lynx Ferrari will feature an all-female driver crew, with 17-Year-Old Doriane Pin, who is a graduate of the FIA Girls on Track programme, joining Manuela Gostner.
  4. The no2 Pzoberer Zürichsee by TFT Porsche will be driven once again by race winners Nicolas Leutwiler and Julien Andlauer.
  5. 10Q Racing Team will be making their MLMC debut in Barcelona with Belgium’s Wim Spinoy and Germany’s Kenneth Heyer driving the n093 Mercedes AMG GT3.

LMP3

  1. The LMP3 grid in Barcelona will consist of 26 cars run by 20 different teams, with either a Ligier JS P320, Duqueine M30-D08 or Adess-03 EVO.
  2. Reigning Team Champions DKR Engineering are running one Nissan powered Duqueine with which they are looking to secure their 5th straight MLMC title.
  3. Germany’s Finn Gehsitz will become the youngest driver to compete in a MLMC event in Spain, the 16-year-old making his LMP3 debut in the no5 Phoenix Racing Ligier alongside compatriot Hamza Owega.
  4. The grid in Barcelona will feature four race-by-race entries that won’t be eligible for championship points:No15 RLR MSport/ No55 Rinaldi Racing/ 56 R-Breizh Competition/ No73 TS Sport.
  5. Former race winner Michael Benham returns to the MLMC after a year away. The British driver suffered a big crash in practice in Barcelona in 2019.Benham will be sharing the no15 RLR MSport Ligier with fellow Brit Tommy Foster.
  6. Spanish team CD Sport will be running a single Ligier JS P320 at their home event, with Denmark’s Michael Jensen and French driver Adam Eteki behind the wheel.
  7. Julien Gerbi is the sole Spanish driver on the grid in Barcelona and he will be racing with French driver Sacha Lehmann in the no16 Ligier run by Polish outfit Team Virage.
