The 16-year-old driver will make his prototype debut with Phoenix Racing for the 2021 season.
Finn Gehrsitz's success story will get a new chapter in 2021: The Stuttgart native will compete for the successful Phoenix Racing team in the Le Mans Prototype 3 (LMP3) class of the Michelin Le Mans Cup next season. The 16-year-old belongs to the youngest LMP3 drivers in the history of the championship. Gehrsitz already completed his first test drives last weekend on the legendary circuit at Spa-Francorchamps.
The youngster made his automobile racing license in 2020 after successful steps in karting. He then left a mark in his first races in a GT4 car. After his first race wins, the step into the LMP3 class with the long-established Phoenix Racing team was made to pave the way for a successful motorsport career.
Phoenix Racing is one of the best-known and most successful racing teams in Germany. The organisation with its base at the Nürburgring was part of the DTM for a long time and has also set up successful GT3 programs together with Audi in what is now the GT World Challenge and NLS (formerly VLN) at the Nürburgring. In the Michelin Le Mans Cup, the team led by Ernst Moser is relying on Gehrsitz, who will have the chance to prove himself at tracks all around Europe.
"I'm really looking forward to working with Phoenix Racing in 2021," said Gehrsitz, who has made the leap from karting to LMP3 in just one year. "The team is one of the most successful in Germany and I'm eager to prove myself in the Michelin Le Mans Cup. I thank my team boss Ernst Moser, who made this campaign possible in the first place. Also a big thanks to all my partners who believe in me and accompany me on my way. I can't wait to finally fire up the V8 engine of my prototype for a race."
For Gehrsitz, the first race in Barcelona will be a big challenge. In his automobile racing career, the young talent has only contested four GT4 races. The switch to a prototype is a big step, which is why the Stuttgart native has a lot to learn. But if his development continues in the same way as before, great things can be expected from Gehrsitz.
