The 2018 Official Test is now over and the teams and drivers are fully prepared for the first two day event of the season this weekend at Le Castellet.
The second three hour session saw heavier rain fall onto the Circuit Paul Ricard, causing the times in the afternoon to be slower than the best of the 4-hour morning test session. Only 18 of the 30 cars ventured out to set a lap time, the other teams deciding not to risk damaging their cars ahead of this weekend’s opening race at Le Castellet.
The no79 Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Ligier of Colin Noble was the fastest car in the extremely wet conditions, with the Scot setting a 2m11.148, three seconds adrift of the 2m08.026 lap set by Andy Meyrick in the no98 Motorsport98 Ligier in the earlier session.
Andy Meyrick said: “The conditions were pretty bad out on track, it certainly isn’t what you would expect for this time of year in the south of France. However we made the most of it. We finished last year on a high note winning the race in Portimão, so we have come here full of confidence. We just need to keep learning about the car in the wet, which could be useful for this weekend’s race.”
The fastest GT3 was the no71 AF Corse Ferrari F488 of Marco Cioci, the Italian setting the fourth fastest time overall with a 2m13.281. This time was 2.2 seconds behind the best time of the day set by Giacomo Piccini in the no8 Kessel Racing F488.
The Michelin Le Mans Cup will be back on track on Friday 13 April for the first Free Practice session of the weekend at 10h00. The first 2-hour race of the 2018 season is due to start at 16h00 on Saturday 14 April.
