Busnelli had to fight with Flick Haigh in the no75 Optimum Racing Audi R8 to secure the first pole of the year on home soil at Monza.  This means he will line up on the front row of the grid later today with fellow Italian Fabio Babini sharing the driving during the two hour race.

In the hotly contested LMP3 class Belgian driver Jean Glorieux secured the first LMP3 pole position for the new Norma M30 run by DKR Engineering.  His time of 1m46.978 was just five hundredths of a second ahead of Tony Wells in the no 79 Nielsen Racing Ligier.

The session was interrupted by a red flag when the rear left wheel on the no 44 SPV Motorsport Ligier of Alvaro Fontes detached, forcing the Spaniard to stop the car next to the track.  After the car and driver were recovered the session resumed uninterrupted to the chequered flag.

Round 1 of the 2017 Michlein Le Mans Cup will take place at 16h45 this afternoon.
