The driver’s championship leaders, Aleksey Basov and Victor Shaitar (77 points) will be at the wheel of the n°72 SMP Racing Ferrari. They will race in Belgium alongsdie with six other Ferrari on the grid, including the three entries from AF Corse that stand fifth, sixth and thirteen in the championship. Euan Hankey and Salih Yoluc, will be once again at the wheel of the n°34 TF Sport Aston Martin. The Anglo-Turkish duo will try to score another victory in order to keep their lead in the team title race and also to close the gap to the Russian line up in the driver’s championship.
The n°88 Mentos Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R will see the return of Klaus Bachler, the Austrian forced to miss the race in Le Castellet due to another engagement. He will drive alongside Norway’s Egidio Perfetti who is third in the driver’s championship after scoring 3 podiums in a row in Le Mans, the Red Bull Ring and Le Castellet.
The McLaren 650S of FFF Racing Team by ACM, now 4th in the championship classification, will be driven by Hiroshi Hamagushi and Adrian Quaife-Hobbs.
The n°26 Ferrari F458 of Classic and Modern Racing will have a brand new line-up with Eric Cayrolle and Anro Santamato at the wheel.
Belgium will be well represented in Spa-Francorchamp with the duo father-son Pierre-Marie De Leener and Adrien De Leener at the wheel of the Ferrari F458 Italia n°14 of AF Corse; and a new entry, the n°90 Autoclub Excelsior Aston Martin Vantage GT3. The two entries will be hoping that home advantage will help them to a podium finish at Spa-Francorchamps.
Barwell Motorsport will line up on the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup grid for the third time in 2016 as the all British team brings its n°66 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 driven by Mark Poole and Richard Abra to the Ardennes.
With both the team and drivers title races too close to call the destination of the championships will probably go down to the wire at the last round in Estoril next month. However the 120-minute race in Spa is going to determine which way it will go and is going to be full of action and drama.
Action will start on Friday 23 of September with two free practice sessions, followed by the qualifying on Saturday at 11:55. The green flag will be wave the same day at 17:30 for the 2-hour race.
There will be plenty of entertainment on and off track with many free activities for both young and old and also Renault Sport races. The 4 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, Round 5 of the 2016 European Le Mans Series, will be the highlight of this weekend at one of the most famous race circuits in the world.
