Round 1 at Le Castellet will Feature 39 Entries

The opening round of the 2022 Michelin Le Mans Cup will see a combined grid of 38 LMP3 and GT3 entries, with the addition of the H24 hydrogen powered race car making an appearance during the practice sessions.

The entire field of 78 drivers and 26 teams will represent 27 different nations from Europe, North and South America, Australia and Asia.

LMP3

  1. The LMP3 grid will feature 31 cars with 62 drivers from 20 different nations, including 12 French drivers for their home event in Le Castellet.
  2. The field will consist of 7 Duqueine M30-D08-Nissans and 24 Ligier JS P320-Nissans.
  3. 2021 Teams’ Champions Nielsen Racing, along with Drivers’ Champions Tony Wells and Colin Noble, return to defend their titles in the no7 Ligier-Nissan.Nielsen Racing will also field a second car, the no4 Duqueine-Nissan for John Melsom and Matt Bell.
  4. 2019 and 2020 MLMC LMP3 Champion and reigning ELMS LMP3 Champion Laurents Hörr returns to the MLMC with DKR Engineering, joining American Jon Brownson in the no3 Duqueine-Nissan.The team from Luxembourg is looking to regain the title it has won on four occasions between 2017 and 2020, running a second car for James Winslow and Alexander Bukhantsov.
  5. Three-time ELMS LMP3 Team Champions United Autosports will run four cars in the 2021 MLMC, with 2020 ELMS LMP3 Champion Wayne Boyd partnering John Schauerman in the no23 Ligier.
  6. Racing Spirit of Le Mans, Team Virage, Graff Racing and MV2S Forestier Racing will all run a two-car effort in Le Castellet.
  7. After finishing second at Le Castellet behind Tony Wells and Colin Noble, American Maurice Smith will have a new teammate at Cool Racing for the French race this year, with Malthe Jakobsen taking over from Matt Bell.
  8. 2018 ELMS LMP3 Champions RLR MSport will field a single Ligier for Tommy Foster and Martin Rich.
  9. Former ELMS LMP2 Champions IDEC Sport will also field a single car for French duo Patrice Lafargue and MLMC race winner Dino Lunardi.
  10. French team ANS Motorsport will make its MLMC debut in Le Castellet with a single car for French driver Nicolas Schatz and his Swiss teammate Jonathan Brossard.
  11. Islandic outfit Team Thor returns after making their MLMC debut in 2021.Audunn Gudmundsson also returns and will be joined by Danish driver Michael Markussen.
  12. German team Reiter Engineering are making their MLMC debut with Britain’s Freddie Hunt being joined by Norway’s Mads Siljehaug.
  13. AT Racing Team, WTM Racing, Optimum Motorsport, 24-7 Motorsport, Frikadelli Racing Team, AF Corse, CD Sport, Rinaldi Racing and TS Corse will all run a single car entry for the 110-minute race in Le Castellet.

GT3

  1. The GT3 grid will feature 7 cars, with 14 drivers from 6 nations.
  2. The grid will also see the MLMC debut for the Honda NSX GT3, with Danish team GMB Motorsport running three cars all with Danish crews.
  3. 2017 MLMC GT3 Champions Ebimotors, along with Drivers’ Champions Fabio Babini and Emanuele Busnelli return to the series with a Porsche 911 GT3 R.
  4. AF Corse will run a pair of Ferrari 488 GT3s, with British crew Luke Davenport and Marcos Vivian de la Pedrosa in the no51 Ferrari and Andrea Montermini and Gino Forgione in the no61 car.
  5. Spanish team Bullitt Racing return to the Michelin Le Mans Cup with an Aston Martin Vantage GT3.

Innovative Class

The development of the H24 Racing H24 hydrogen race car will continue during the MLMC weekends this season, with Norman Nato and Stephane Richelmi sharing the driving at Le Castellet as the team works hard to get the car ready for its race debut at Le Mans in 2024.
