Ready for a High Speed Encounter at Monza

After the drama and excitement of the opening round in Le Castellet, the teams and drivers competing in the 2018 Michelin Le Mans Cup head to Italy for the second 120-minute race of the season at the home of Italian motor sport on Saturday 12 May.

Twenty seven cars will travel to Italy, with two teams and ten drivers racing at home. In total there will be 18 teams and 54 drivers representing 16 different nations.

The GT3 race winners in France, Sergio Pianezzola and Giacomo Piccini will be hoping to make it a double in Monza in front of their family, friends and the Italian fans as they compete in the no8 Kessel Racing Ferrari F488 GT3 against a compact and high quality grid of GT3 machinery. 

Reigning Michelin Le Mans Cup GT3 Team Champions Ebimotors will field the only Porsche of the grid for an all Italian line up of Paolo Venerosi and Alessandro Baccani.  In fact four of the six GT3 entries feature an all Italian driver line up with the no71 AF Corse Ferrari featuring Marco Cioci and Pierguiseppe Perazzini and the no77 Kessel Racing F488 with Andrea Piccini and Claudio Schiavoni.  Maurizio Mediani is the ninth Italian driver on the GT3 grid, joining Christoph Ulrich in the no51 Spirit of Race Ferrari.

Twenty one LMP3 cars will travel to Monza with reigning champions DKR Engineering getting the defence of their title off to a great start with a dramatic victory by Leonard Hoogenboom and Jens Petersen in Le Castellet ahead of the two Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Ligiers, with Alasdair McCaig and Colin Noble finishing ahead of their teammates.

Another car to watch will be the no14 RLR MSport Ligier-Nissan, which is driven by the winners of the LMP3 class of the European Le Mans Series race in Le Castellet, Job Van Uitert from the Netherlands and Canadian John Farano.

The second round of the 2018 Michelin Le Mans Cup will take place at Monza on Saturday 12 May, with the race start at 16h00. You can follow all the action on the official website at www.lemanscup.com with live coverage of qualifying and the race.
