RAM Racing will continue its Le Mans Cup campaign this weekend as the championship heads to the Red Bull Ring, a track that holds fond memories for the crew who, last time there, won the European Le Mans Series race on their way to taking the GTLM championship victory.
The team returns to the 4.3km long circuit in Spielberg, Austria, with high hopes for a repeat of this success after a second place finish in Imola 12 Hours a fortnight ago and two fourth place finishes in The Road to Le Mans in June with drivers Tom Onslow-Cole (GB) and Remon Vos (NL).
“The crew here this weekend is the same as that which won in the ELMS in 2013 so we are looking forward to returning and hopefully repeating this success,” commented Team Principal Dan Shufflebottom. "Our driver line-up is strong and Tom and Remon are working very well together, so we're feeling good."
The team entered the Le Mans Cup as gentleman driver Vos wanted to race at the world-famous Circuit de la Sarthe. As a team that has won ELMS, and contested WEC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Silverstone Park-based outfit was perfectly placed to take on the challenge.
“After two fourth place results at Le Mans, we’re feeling confident that Remon can take the challenge to the other more experienced amateur competitors,” Shufflebottom continued. “Above all, we need a clean race and some championship points so we can challenge for the championship win at the end of the season.”
With rain showers forecast for during Saturday’s two-hour race, however, Shufflebottom is ready to take things as they come.
“Remon hasn’t yet raced in the wet so that will be a new challenge,” he continued. “But, he’s taken really well to everything so far so I have no doubt this will be the same. When it comes to being prepared, the truth is, you have to be prepared to adapt to whatever the race throws at you.”
The Le Mans Cup race at Red Bull Ring starts at 16.00 CET and is livestreamed on the championship website.
