The first free practice session for the Michelin Le Mans Cup in Belgium started in the pouring rain, which meant the track was very wet for the entire 60-minute period.
At the chequered flag Duncan Tappy in the no25 Lanan Racing Norma-Nissan was the fastest driver, posting a 2m35.003 lap of the 7km Spa-Francorchamps circuit in the extremely wet conditions. Tappy was 0.473s ahead of fellow British driver Matt Bell in the no22 United Autosports Ligier, with championship leader Leonard Hoogenboom third quickest with a 2m35.535 in the no3 DKR Engineering Norma-Nissan.
Championship contenders Alasdair McCaig and Colin Noble were 9th fastest in the no79 Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Ligier.
In the GT3 class the no71 AF Corse Ferrari F488 of Marco Cioci led the way with the Italian setting a 2m38.971 lap, 0.8 seconds ahead of the championship leading no8 Kessel Racing F488 of Sergio Pianezzola.
The second Free Practice session for the Michelin Le Mans Cup will take place this afternoon at 15h15 CET.
