Despite the Covid-19 crisis, and a delayed start of the season, the six rounds of the 2020 Michelin Le Mans Cup took place on five of Europe’s most challenging circuits.
Eight cars were on the GT3 season entry list with some additional entries at some of the races such as Road To Le Mans.
Let’s have a look at some facts and figures of the GT3 class of this 2020 season.
- Four manufacturers raced during the 2020 season: Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren, and Lamborghini.
- The n°8 Iron Lynx Ferrari scored three victories out of seven and five pole positions.
- The n°2 Pzoberer Zürichsee by TFT Porsche 911 GT3 R won 2 races this season and one pole position.
- The two Road To Le Mans races were won by an extra entrant, the n°63 FFF Racing Team by ACM Lamborghini of Hiroshi Hamaguchi and Andrea Caldarelli.
- It is the first MLMC GT3 title for the Italian team Iron Lynx after scoring 132 points this season. It is the second highest number of points ever scored in Le Mans Cup (both classes), the most being 138 points scored by Kessel Racing in 2018.
- Three race records were broken this season. In Portimão and Monza, with Julien Andlaeur (Porsche n°2) setting a lap in 1:40.795 at the Portuguese round and a lap of 1:48.118 in Italy. David Perel, at the wheel of the n°74 Kessel Racing Ferrari, broke the record in the second race of Road To Le Mans with a lap in 3:55.132.
- Every time the pole sitter won the race it was the n°8 Iron Lynx Ferrari, in Le Castellet, Spa and Portimão.
- For all the other races, the pole sitter did not score the victory. In Monza, Iron Lynx was on pole but it’s the n°2 Pzoberer Zürichsee by TFT Porsche that won the race. In Road To Le Mans, the n°63 Lamborghini won both races and the Ferraris n°74 of Kessel Racing and n°8 of Iron Lynx were on pole. Finally, in Portimão, Kessel Racing (Ferrari n°74) were on pole and the n°2 Porsche took the win.
- Since the launch of the Michelin Le Mans Cup in 2016, four teams have claimed the GT3 titles: TF Sport in 2016, Ebimotors in 2017, Kessel Racing in 2018/2019 and Iron lynx in 2020.
- Three different manufacturers have won the GT3 MLMC titles: Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Ferrari.
