On Saturday 14 May 2022, the Michelin Le Mans Cup returns to Imola, with a grid that is four times as big as it was in 2016, with 40 cars across the two classes, plus the addition of the H24 Racing hydrogen powered H24 also taking part in the weekend.
LMP3
- 33 cars will be on the LMP3 grid in Imola.
- There will be 25 Ligier JS P320s and 8 Duqueine M30-D08s.
- There are 21 different nations represented on the LMP3 grid.
- There are two Italian teams (AF Corse, TS Corse) and 1 Italian driver (Pietro Peccenini).
- Round 1 winners Alexander Mattschull and Tom Dillmann are looking for their second win of the season in the no10 Racing Spirit of Leman Ligier.
- The no11 WTM Racing was the top Duqueine at Le Castellet, with Torsten Kratz and Leonard Weiss finishing in 4th place.
- While they failed to finish in the Michelin Le Mans Cup race at Le Castellet in the no69 Cool Racing Ligier, Maurice Smith and Malthe Jakobsen did win in LMP3 in the European Le Mans Series race in France.
GT3
- 7 cars will be on the GT3 grid in Imola.
- There will be 3 x Honda NSX GT3s, 2 x Ferrari 488 GT3s, 1 x Porsche 911 GT3 R, 1 x Aston Martin Vantage GT3.
- The current official lap record for the MLMC GT3 is held by Francesco Castellacci with a 1m43.209 set in a Ferrari 488 GT3 in the 2016 race.
- GMB Motorsport scored a 1-2 finish on the Danish teams MLMC debut in Le Castellet with Kasper Jensen and Kristian Poulsen taking the class win.
- 2017 Michelin Le Mans Cup GT3 Champions Emanuele Busnelli and Fabio Babini will be looking for a good finish on home soil in the no46 Ebimotors Porsche 911 GT3 R.
- There are six different nations represented on the GT3 grid.
- There are two Italian teams (Ebimotors, AF Corse) and three Italian drivers (Andrea Montermini, Emanuele Busnelli, Fabio Babini) on the GT3 grid.
- The no99 Bullitt Racing Aston Martin Vantage of Stephen Pattrick and Theo Nouet finished 4th in Le Castellet but missed a podium finish by less than 0.3 seconds behind the no61 AF Corse Ferrari of Gino Forgione and Andrea Montermini.
Round 2 of the 2022 Michelin Le Mans Cup will begin on Friday 13 May with Free Practice, with Qualifying and the 110-minute race on Saturday 14 May.
