The first free practice session of 2018 saw 28 LMP3 and GT3 cars take to the Circuit Paul Ricard under cloudy skies. The 60-minute session was cut short by a red flag caused by the no71 AF Corse of Piergiuseppe Perazzini which hit the barrier at Turn 7 with seven minutes remaining on the clock. The Italian driver was OK.
The no30 CD Sport Norma of Laurents Horr was the fastest car in the opening session, the German setting a 2m00.451 lap, over half a second ahead of the rest of the field. The no21 DB Autosport Norma was second quickest, 0.8 seconds ahead of the no2 Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen Ligier.
The no71 AF Corse had set the fastest lap of the session before Perazzini’s argument with the barrier. It was Marco Cioci who set the 2m06.614 in the Ferrari F488, 0.229s ahead of the no51 Spirit of Race Ferrari of Maurizio Mediani.
The second Free Practice of the opening day of the Michelin Le Mans Cup 2018 will take place at 15h20 CET this afternoon.
