Fifty eight drivers and twenty teams will represent seventeen different nations from around the world, including Japan, India, USA, Mexico, Canada and, of course, Europe in the two hour race to be held on Saturday 14 April.
Over the past two seasons the Michelin Le Mans Cup has established itself as the leading series for any driver or team wanting to take their first step on the career ladder in endurance racing.
Twenty two LMP3 cars will line up on the grid for the first two hour race of the season in Le Castellet, with seven cars and eleven drivers racing under the red, white and blue of the French Tricolor in the south of France. Three LMP3 chassis manufacturers will be present, with two French builders, Ligier and Norma, also flying the flag at home in Le Castellet. There are fifteen Ligier JS P3s, six Norma M30s and there is one British built Ginetta P3-15 as well.
2017 Michelin Le Mans Cup champions DKR Engineering return to defend their title with a new driver line up. They will face a tough challenge from many quarters including 2017 vice champions Ecurie Ecosse / Nielsen, 2016 champions United Autosports and from French teams such as Graff, CD Sport, DB Autosports and N’Race.
Seven cars will line up in the GT3 category and the class is full of quality teams and drivers. 2017 champions Ebimotors return to the Michelin Le Mans Cup swapping their title winning Lamborghini for a Porsche 911 GT3 R to take on the mighty Ferrari 488 GT3 run by all but one of the other teams which includes AF Corse, Spirit of Race and Kessel Racing. San Marino based team StileF Squadra Corse also join the grid in Le Castellet with a Ferrari F458 Italia.
With a large prize fund and a place on the grid at the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans at stake, expect there to be plenty of racing action at Le Castellet as the Michelin Le Mans Cup begins the 2018 season on the 14th April.
