The no98 Motorsport98 Ligier JS P3-Nissan of Andy Meyrick set the fastest lap of the opening 60 minute practice session at Spa-Francorchamps for Round 5 of the 2017 Michelin Le Mans Cup. The British driver set a 2m18.060 in the Belgian team car who he shares with Eric de Doncker.
The time was over half a second ahead of Richard Bradley in the no40 Graff Ligier with a 2m18.644 lap, who in turn was 0.08 seconds ahead of Colin Noble in the championship contending no79 Nielsen Racing Ligier-Nissan.
The championship leading no3 DKR Engineering Norma-Nissan of Belgian Jean Glorieux and Spain’s Alex Toril was 5th fastest in FP1 with Toril setting a 2m19.065 lap, one second adrift of the fastest car.
The GT3 class was headed by the no7 Lee Mowle Mercedes AMG GT3, with Dominik Baumann posting a 2m22.082 around the 7km Spa-Francorchamps circuit on his Michelin Le Mans Cup debut.
The Mercedes was just 0.052 seconds ahead of the no20 Gulf Racing UK Porsche of Ben Barker with the championship leading no46 Ebimotors Lamborghini in third with Fabio Babini setting a lap time of 2m26.360.
The second Free Practice session will get underway at 14h05 CET this afternoon.
