Monza race winners Nielsen Racing set the fastest time of the first Free Practice session for this weekend’s Road to Le Mans.

Free Practice was red flagged with seven minutes of the 60-minute session remaining after Claudio Sdanewitsch (Spirit of Race n°55) went off the track before the Porsche Curves, hitting the barriers and causing the session to be stopped to allow recovery and repairs to be made.

Colin Noble set a 3m57.055 lap in the no79 Ligier, 1.054 seconds quicker than the second fastest car, the no18 M.Racing YMR Ligier with Alexandre Cougnaud being the faster of the two drivers.  While the two fastest cars were Ligiers, the next two were Norma M40s with the no3 DKR Engineering Norma of Alexander Toril posting a 3m58.418 lap.

The fastest GT3 competitor was the no95 Spirit of Race Ferrari F488, with Maurizio Mediani posting a 4m03.821 lap of the 13.6km circuit which was good enough for 10th place overall and 1 second quicker than the no20 Gulf Racing Porsche 911 GT3R of Ben Barker, whose time of 4m04.839 was 12th quickest overall. 

The third placed GT3 car was the no8 SVC Sport Management GMBH Lamborhini Huracan GT3 of Steeve Hiesse, the French driver posting a 4m06.796 before the red flag was shown to end the session.

Free Practice 2 will take place tomorrow morning at 09h00.
