Spa-Francorchamps: Drivers' reactions

LMC - 22/09/2019 - Sophie LIGER

Sergio Pianezzola – n°8 Kessel Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 – GT3 Winner

“I don’t really know what happened at the start. It’s always difficult to take the start in this championship because the LMP3 cars don’t have any ABS and especially here there is a tough breaking after the starting line. To be honest I was behind but I was in the outside and I tough that could be an advantage for me. I don’t know what happened to Lavergne, I heard it crashed and I tried to drive as wide as I could and I had to go in the run off at the exit of the first corner but at the end it was quite a clean start. Then I tried to keep my pace, it was not easy with some LMP3 cars because they were much faster thank us in sector two but slower that us in sector one and three. Then we had a penalty of 25s so we had to push really hard to try to give the car to Giacomo with an advantage and at least to try to stay ahead. As we knew that the n°51 (Luzich Racing) had not a good start, the goal was to take as much point as possible. So it’s good to go to Portimão with a small advance on our rivals but we never know what can happen in Motorsports so we will stay focus and try to do our best.”

Giacomo Piccini - n°8 Kessel Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 – GT3 Winner

“My stint was really tough, Sergio did a great job at the start and normally he is doing the biggest part of the job, but this time I had to work really hard! The car was good, the Aston Martin n°99 Beechdean AMR) was really really fast today, I think the fastest car on track. I knew it was difficult to stay really close especially in the fast corners here in Spa, so I tried to keep Ross (Gunn) on a security distance and at the end I managed to do it. But it was really tough, I had to manage the Full Course Yellow as normally our car takes a little bit longer to warm up the tires so it was the most difficult part. But honestly everything was under control so thank you to the team for giving us an amazing car and I think for me it’s the best win of the year so far.”

Jim McGuire – n°22 Ligier JS P3 – United Autosports
“I saw a gap at the start, went for it and unfortunately went a little too aggressive and made a very stupid mistake and caused an incident. We had to change the front end and just keep going, but Matt did a great job. His pace was good when he took over. I’m very much looking forward to Portimao and reset the mistakes from this challenging weekend.”
