GT3 Returns to the Red Bull Ring

LMC - 29/06/2017 - Jeff CARTER

In 2016 the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup was run on the 4.3km Red Bull Ring circuit. This year the GT3 competitors will be joined by the LMP3 category in what promises to be an exciting event on Saturday 22 July 2017.

The 2016 race was the first of three consecutive victories from pole position for SMP Racing and the second of four for Alexsey Basov and Victor Shaitar, the Russian drivers having raced and won at the Road to Le Mans event in June for AF Corse.

The SMP Racing Ferrari 488 finished the two hour race, having completed 75 lap, 8.1 seconds ahead of the Mentos Racing Porsche of Klaus Bachler and Edigio Perfetti and 9.7 seconds ahead of the third placed car, the TF Sport Aston Martin of Euan Hankey and Salih Yoluc that is this year racing for the first time in European Le Mans Series.

The fastest race lap in Austria was 1m29.062 set by Victor Shaitar, which was also the fastest GT3 lap in any session.

Klaus Bachler set the fastest speed through the speed trap in the Mentos Racing Porsche with a top speed of 238.9kph in the second Free Practice session.

Round 3 of the Michelin Le Mans Cup will take place at the Red Bull Ring in Austria on 21/22 July 2017.
