LMC - 19/02/2018 - Jeff CARTER
SMP Racing, the Russian team which won the Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup Drivers Championship with Aleksey Basov and Victor Shaitar, will this year compete in the LMP1 category with two AER powered BR Engineering BR1s. They will compete against eight other entries in the top class of the world championship.
The LMGTE Am class will feature two teams and five drivers who made their mark in the Le Mans Cup. 2016 Le Mans Cup GT3 champions TF Sport will take their place on the nine car grid with MLMC race winners Euan Hankey and Salih Yoluc racing the no90 Aston Martin Vantage with British driver Charles Eastwood.
Swiss driver Thomas Flohr and Italian Francesco Castellacci will start their second season of WEC in 2018 after jumping straight from the MLMC to the World Championship in 2017 with the Spirit of Race team. After securing four podiums, including one win in Japan, they will be hoping for more wins in 2018/19 when they are joined by former F1 and Ferrari GTE works driver Giancarlo Fisichella behind the wheel of the no54 Ferrari F488 GTE.
The fifth driver from the MLMC is five time podium finisher Egidio Perfetti, the Norwegian driver racing in the Team Project 1 Porsche 911 RSR in the 2018/19 Super Season alongside American Patrick Lindsey and the highly experienced German Jörg Bergmeister.
The 2018/19 FIA World Endurance Championship will get underway at Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday 5 May, one month after the opening round of the 2018 Michelin Le Mans Cup at the Circuit Paul Ricard on Saturday 14 April.
