FP2: United Autosports Top Wet Practice Session

LMC - 13/06/2019 - Jeff CARTER

The second free practice session of the Road to Le Mans weekend saw the track declared wet at the start of the 60-minute session on Thursday morning, with rain falling on part of the track mid session to cause some tricky conditions for the drivers and teams to contend with.

The no22 United Autosports Ligier of Matt Bell topped the timing sheets, the British driver posting a 4m00.120 lap, just over five seconds slower than the fastest time set in Free Practice One last night.  The no22 Ligier was 0.990s ahead of the no25 Lanan Racing Norma of Michael Benham, the 2018 Road to Le Mans race winner setting a 4m01.110 lap time on the full 13.6km La Sarthe circuit.

Reigning champions Sergio Pianezzola and Giacomo Piccini were the quickest of the GT3 runners in the no8 Kessel Racing Ferrari, with Pianezzola posting a 4m09.140 lap, which was good enough for 6th overall in the changing track conditions.

The no97 TF Sport Aston Martin of Flick Haigh was second fastest, 0.120s behind the Ferrari and 0.115s ahead of the no99 Beechdean AMR Aston Martin Vantage of Ross Gunn.

The scene is now set for qualifying this afternoon, with the first 20-minute session to set the grid for race one beginning at 13h00.
