FP1: Road to Le Mans is Go

LMC - 12/06/2019 - Jeff CARTER

The first free practice session of the Road to Le Mans weekend was headed by the no2 Nielsen Racing Norma of Tony Wells and Colin Noble, with Noble posting the best time of 3m54.896 around the full 13.6km La Sarthe circuit.

The 60-minute session was interrupted by a red flag when the no74 Cool Racing Ligier went off the track into the barriers, which meant a short delay before the session could resume.  The no95 Team Africa Le Mans Bentley GT3 also stopped on track, which meant a Slow Zone period for a short time while the car was recovered.

At the end of the session it was the no24 United Autosports Ligier of Wayne Boyd that finished second behind Noble’s Nielsen Racing Norma, just under a second behind and 0.105s ahead of the no3 DKR Engineering Norma of Laurents Hörr.

In the GT3 category the no71 Luzich Racing Ferrari was the fastest car, with Mikkel Mac posting a 3m58.083 lap, good enough for 6th overall and well ahead of the second placed car, the no40 SPS Automotive Performance Mercedes AMG GT3 of Valentin Pierburg, the German driver setting a 4m01.580 lap in 13th overall.

The no82 Kessel Racing Ferrari was third fastest with Pierre Kaffer setting a 4m01.849, 0.5 seconds ahead of the no99 Beechdean AMR Aston Martin Vantage.

The second 60-minute Free Practice session will take place tomorrow morning at 08h30 (CET) followed by qualifying at 13h00.
