The no3 Norma took the lead with Kirmann holding off a determined challenge from Michael Benham in the no25 Lanan Racing Norma and the no30 CD Sport Norma of Kevin Bole-Besançon. On lap 2 the no30 Norma passed Benham for second and then challenged the no3 Norma for the lead. Kirmann went off track allowing Bole-Besançon into the lead of the race.
At the pitstops the no30 Norma was the last to stop but a six second stop and go penalty was imposed for not respecting the mandatory pitstop time. This dropped the car down the order.
Duncan Tappy was leading after the pitstops in the no25 Lanan Racing Norma but Laurents Hörr was rapidly closing the gap in the no3 DKR Engineering Norma, the German making his move at Indianapolis to take the position. With the no30 Norma coming into the pits for the penalty Hörr was now leading the race and he went on to take the chequered flag.
The no71 Luzich Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 of Fabien Lavergne and Mikkel Mac was the first GT3 car to the chequered flag to make it two wins from two at Le Mans and the Franco-German driver pairing were able to stand on the top step of the podium for the second time this week.
At the start it was the no8 Kessel Racing Ferrari of Sergio Pianezzola in the lead with the no71 Luzich Racing Ferrari in second and the no40 SPS Automotive Performance Mercedes of Valentin Pierburg in third. Lavergne hit the front early in his stint, a position he held until the pitstops, while the Kessel Ferrari dropped down the order.
After the stops Mikkel Mac took over the driving duties in the no71 Ferrari and pulled away from the chasing pack. Ross Gunn in the no99 Beechdean AMR Aston Martin was up into 3rd and catching the no40 of Tom Onslow Cole. Gunn caught and passes Onslow-Cole and set off in pursuit of the leader. Mac was able to hold on as Gunn closed to within a second as the chequered flag came out, much to the relief of the Dane.
It was all smiles on both the LMP3 and GT3 podiums after another exciting Road to Le Mans. The next Michelin Le Mans Cup event is in Barcelona on Saturday 20 July.
