Barcelona added to 2019 Michelin Le Mans Cup Calendar

After a very successful 2018 season which saw larger grids and great action on track, the Michelin Le Mans Cup will continue to build the brand at five of the six world class venues visited during the past two seasons.  A new circuit has been added to the schedule with the circuit of Barcelona, the home of the Spanish Grand Prix, replacing the Red Bull Ring in July.

The highlight of the season will continue to be the Road to Le Mans in June, where the teams and drivers compete in two 55-minute races on the full 14km La Sarthe circuit, with the second race held on the morning of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world’s only opportunity for GT3 and LMP3 competitors to race in front of 250,000 motor sport fans.

The season will once again start with the official pre season test at Le Castellet followed by the first 2-hour race of 2019 at the same venue.  In May the Michelin Le Mans Cup will return to the fastest track on the schedule with a two hour race at Monza in Italy.

The new event at the 4.655km circuit of Barcelona will follow the Road to Le Mans on 19th 20th of July, with the third 120 minute of the season in Spain.  The teams will return to the awesome Spa-Francorchamps circuit in September with the season concluding once again at the Autódromo do Algarve in Southern Portugal in October (To be confirmed).

Gérard Neveu, CEO of the Michelin Le Mans Cup, said, “The Michelin Le Mans Cup continues to provide a great platform for teams and drivers wanting to take their first step in endurance with some of the best race tracks in the world featuring on the 2019 schedule. The addition of Barcelona is very welcome as the high profile circuit adds a new challenge for the competitors in July.

Five of the six events will be held alongside the European Le Mans Series while the Road to Le Mans gives the Michelin Le Mans Cup an event that is unique in motor sport.  We look forward to seeing bigger grids in 2019.”

The 2019 Michelin Le Mans Cup will continue to provide the competitors and the fans with high profile venues and plenty of exciting action to watch during season four.
